Johnnie Liliedahl
OPA member Johnnie Liliedahl is a representational painter who has maintained a teaching studio over her entire painting career, and has developed methods of instruction that have given many beginning painters the foundation they needed to progress quickly in their study of painting.
Her workshops stress painting from the live model, the live still life, and plein air landscapes, but everyone eventually wants to know how to work from their photographic references. She has written a book, “"Photo-Imaging for Painters - An Artist's Guide to Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.” detailing how she uses Photoshop® to manipulate her photo references to reveal information for the painter that is not visible in the printed photograph. Other subjects include how to merge elements from different photos into one composition, change the light on the subject from indoor to outdoor color and temperature, and how to quickly color-correct a digital image of a painting to match the original.
She has successfully blended working from the live model with the use of photographic images in her professional work, and is happy to share that knowledge with other painters.
