About the Artist
Painting the Legacy of the American West
STEVEN LANG (b.1960)
As a young boy, Steven Lang spent many
hours in a bookstore visiting the pictorial history of Frederic Remington
by
Harold McCracken. He dreamed early on that someday he would become
an accomplished painter of fine western art.
Art of the West Magazine March/April 2002 entitled an article on Lang
as “Visual Memories”, detailing his hands-on experience at period re-enactments.
Furthermore, being of Pawnee and Cherokee descent, he puts a natural
emphasis on the Native American as subject matter.
Southwest Art Magazine April 2000 featured Lang as “The Story Teller”,
filling his canvas with spellbinding tales of the Old West and captivating
his audience with story lines that give accurate description of historical
facts to his paintings.
Beginning his fine arts career in 1997, he has received national recognition
with Awards of Excellence from Oil Painters of America; Best of Show/Oil,
WAA Ellensburg, WA; the George Phippen Family Award, Prescott, Az;
Gold Medal/Oil, San Dimas, CA and more.
Lang is a Master Signature Member of OPA and a full artist member
of the California Art Club. His work is exhibited in the permanent
collections at the Favell Museum in Klamath Falls, Oregon and the Mountain
Oyster Club in Tucson, Arizona, where he was also awarded Honorary
Artist Life Membership.
