About the Artist

Zhiwei Tu was born in 1951 in the northern Guangdong Province of China, the son of peasant parents. He has a M.A. and B.A. from Guangzhou Institute of Fine Arts, China, 1981 and 1975 as well as a 1990 M.F.A. from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Tu served as Assistant Professor of Art, Teaching College of Shiaoguan, China 1975-78, Assistant professor of Art, Guangzhou College of Fine Arts, China 1983-87, Assistant professor of Art, College of South China Literature and Art, China 1982-98 and Assistant professor of Art Guangzhou Institute of Fine Arts, China, 1981-1989.

Numerous awards have been received by Zhiwei Tu including:
