Once again Oil Painters of America is pleased to present "The Virtuosos of the OPA Juried Exhibition of Traditional Oils", hosted by Cutter & Cutter Fine Art, in St. Augustine, Florida. This event will be take place March 1 through March 31, 2019 with the opening reception being held on Friday, March 1 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The delightfully picturesque city of St. Augustine is the oldest city in the United States and is situated on the Atlantic Ocean, with many scenic views and charming old buildings to capture one's attention.

Our goal is to assemble the finest display of approximately 150 representational oil paintings. The focus in the jurying process will be to select paintings that show the highest quality in draftsmanship, color, and composition, emphasizing a diversity in representational style and subject matter.

The total awards will be a minimum of $10,000 in cash and/or merchandise.

The awarding juror is renowned Master Signature Artist Daniel Greene. Current Signature and Master Signature members of Oil Painters of America are eligible to compete.

General Information

FINAL ACCEPTANCE of online submissions: Friday, December 10, 2018
  • Canvas size: Signature entry size not to exceed 1,200 square inches (unframed). Example: 30" x 40" = 1,200 sq. in. Master Signature entry size not to exceed 2,400 square inches (unframed). Example: 40" x 60" = 2,400 sq. in.
  • Maximum entries three (3). However, only one (1) painting may be accepted.
  • Paintings entered must have been painted in the last 3 years and should not have been accepted or exhibited in any previous OPA Exhibition.
  • Submission must be originally conceived, artist's own reference, own drawing, own concept and must be selfpainted.
  • No direct copies of stock images, historic photos, or any reference you do not hold total copyright are allowed.
  • No digital, mechanical, photo, or other transferring to the substrate of any kind is acceptable. The artist must draw and/or paint the image on the substrate him/herself.
  • Painting must be framed and wired for hanging.
  • Flat substrates, including canvas board, Gesso board, Gesso Masonite board, acrylic Gessoed Dibond aluminum, aluminum composite panel and wood are acceptable. Paintings on decorative copper and tooled aluminum, oil paper, natural stone or on three-dimensional objects are not acceptable.
  • Oil paints, alkyd resin, water soluble oils and oil sticks/bars are acceptable. Metal leaf (i.e: gold, silver, etc.) is acceptable if it does not comprise more than twenty percent (20%) of the visible surface.
  • The artist retains copyright to his/her image(s). However, accepted images do become part of OPA archives and may be used for future OPA event promotion.
  • All work must be for sale and reflect the artist's current pricing structure. No NFS.
  • An artist who withdraws an entry after acceptance into the exhibition shall not be eligible to enter any OPA exhibition for the two succeeding years.

Online Submissions - Deadline: Monday, December 10, 2018
Electronic applications will be accepted beginning November 1 through December 10, 2018. More information on submitting entries will be forthcoming.

Jurying Fees
There will be no jurying fee charged.

Acceptance and Uncrating Fees
A fee of $100.00 will be charged once a painting has been accepted into the exhibition with $25 of this fee going to uncrating and $75 going to OPA.

Artists participating in the "Virtuosos of the OPA" Exhibition are required to renew their membership, by paying their dues, no later than January 31, 2019.

Sales Commission
Sales commission of 50% is required by Cutter & Cutter Fine Art for all paintings sold. Please take this into consideration when setting your price. All work that is submitted must be for sale. Paintings must be priced in accordance with the artist's current pricing structure.

Delivery and Return of Accepted Work
Delivery for Local and Out of Town Artists:

between February 4 and February 8, 2019. Hand delivered work must be picked up between April 1 and April 5, 2019.

Shipping: Both Signature and Master Signature artists are responsible for shipping their paintings to and from the exhibition.

Shipments from OUTSIDE the US must be shipped "FREE DOMICILE" or will not be accepted.

Local Artists: removal of paintings during this period. If not removed a storage fee will be charged.

Oil Painters of America and Cutter & Cutter Fine Art will not be responsible for loss or damage of any artwork, no matter what the cause. By submitting artwork to this exhibition, each artist will be deemed to have concurred with this greement. Artists pay for shipping both ways. We suggest that you provide insurance to cover the full value of the artwork while in transit.
