1:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Painting Demonstration by Juror of Awards Charles Young Walls OPA Location: Quinlan Visual Arts Center, 514 Green St NE

A life-long artist, Charles Young Walls has devoted himself to the pursuit of artistic excellence.

He received his BFA from Arizona State University and afterward was trained at the National Academy of Design and The Art Students League of New York.

His excitement about life and art resides fully in the now and in the future. He sees each new painting as a challenge to explore and discover, not painting the last painting again and again. With this approach he realizes that the development of aesthetic taste and knowledge of his chosen field are never ending, and he revels in that ongoing quest. This also manifests in the classes that he teaches -- a challenging drawing and painting course wherein all students work from life.

Charles is a signature member of both Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society and has won major awards for his work with both organizations. Among these are the 2015 OPA Salon Gold Medal, the Presidents' Award of Excellence at the 2015 OPA National, and the John August Dietrich Memorial Figurative Award of Excellence at the 2013 OPA National. He also holds membership with the Portrait Society of America, the National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society, and the California Art Club. He and his wife currently live in the Atlanta area.

5:30 p.m. Dinner Together Location: Skogies on Lake Lanier, 2151 Dawsonville Hwy

Weather permitting, we headed out to Skogies on Lake Lanier for dinner outside. Casual dining. Separate checks provided and included an automatic 20% gratuity.

Maximum Capacity: 18
Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Please Note: Masks required by attendees; however, models will not be wearing masks while posing

Open to OPA members and guests, this workshop challenged those who attend to move out of their comfort zones to explore representational imagery beyond mere copying what is before them. Solid instruction without academic conformity, this workshop offered to artists hungry for moving their art forward. Charles taught with the individual artist in mind. Utilizing the costumed model, from composition to sculptural painting, with an eye towards artistic taste and aesthetic, the goal was to look beyond, to see, to think in a sensitive way. And in so doing, begin to gain a deeper understanding of the rich medium of oil painting.

Informative and passionate, Charles approaches art instruction in a logical and progressive manner by addressing visual principles and the material power of technique in order to transcend them so that the painter may develop and fulfill their own artistic vision.

Charles holds a BFA from Arizona State University and studied further at the National Academy of Design and Art Students League, both in New York City. Visit Charles' website at www.CharlesYoungWalls.com
