David Browning

David Browning grew up in Southern California during the height of the surfing boom of the 1960’s in a musical family.  Having been trained in classical piano from the age of 4, he used his musical skills to get through college in Colorado playing for melodramas and honky-tonk bars in the historic mining towns.  His first painting influence came at an early age from his grandfather who painted actively in oils.  David’s early painting was mostly in acrylics due to the rapid drying time and his youthful impatience.

There was a long pause in David’s artistic development as a graduate degree from M.I.T. and a career in international banking ensued.  David retired at 45 having lived in 7 countries and restarted his journey in painting.

David has had the good fortune to study with a number of leading artists in the greater Washington D.C. area.  Growing up in Laguna Beach, with the beauty of the Pacific and nature all around, he has been deeply influenced by the effects of light in bringing subjects to life from portraits to still life and landscapes.

His works are held in private collections in Washington DC, Virginia, Michigan, Florida, Europe, and other locations.

David’s style continues to evolve with a loosening of his strokes and moving towards a more impressionist style.  However, his love of the use of light and contrasts continues in all his works.  He now resides between Switzerland and Florida with his wife Vivienne Aufdenblatten-Browning and is focused on capturing the beauty of Switzerland’s mountains, lakes, and historic towns.
