Susan Patton

Susan Patton is a professional artist from North Mississippi. She is also a Registered Physical Therapist but has put that career on hold to pursue her passion for art. Her mother, Dot Courson, is also a professional artist.

She was a finalist in the 2020 Portrait Sociaty of America’s Members only competition. In 2022, she was awarded finalist again in the Portrait Society of America’s Members only competition in the portrait commission category, as well as placing in the still life category.

By Susan Patton

An avid learner, Susan is also known for her love for teaching. She teaches multiple sold out, in-person workshops every year on subjects including design, brushwork, Plein air, and portrait painting.  Susan was a faculty member for Plein Air South in September 2021, where she demonstrated her “Color Circle” mising process, an original color mixing technique that she developed. In her portrait workshops, she teaches how to paint skin tones that are precise, but painterly.

Along with teaching, Susan is also known for her figurative paintings that capture fleeting moments in life that people want to remember. She hopes that her work highlights the small moments and subtle details of everyday life to the glory of God.

Susan has a youtube channel: @susanpattonart.
