Description - The Peaks of Otter Lodge is nestled between the two Peaks of Otter: Sharp Top and Flat Top. There is an easy 1 mile walking trail around Abbott Lake between the two mountains that gives you an opportunity to paint either mountain top from the trail. There is a neat stone tunnel that goes underneath the Blue Ridge Parkway that is right beside the lodge and along the side of the Abbott Lake Trail.
Instructions - We will be getting together on October 16th at 8:00 AM at the Peaks of Otter parking lot right in front of the lodge. Feel free to arrive a little later in the morning if you'd like (around / before 8:00AM is for those of you that love to paint the sunrise). In the possible event of a rain-out, we will simply reschedule to the 17th and meet at the same place and time. Meals will not be provided; please pack a lunch or plan to eat at the restaurant (Dining Room) inside of the lodge that serves lunch from 12 Noon - 3:00PM. There is also a little café that serves snack food and drinks that is usually open. Regardless of the convenient restaurant and café, I still recommend bringing some snacks. Around 1:30 PM we will be getting back together outside the back entrance of the lodge to mingle and show each other our work. I suggest bringing a hoodie or jacket, extra drinking water, maybe a shady hat and a great attitude:) The Peaks is a little chilly in the morning this time of year and warms up quite a bit as the sun rises. Please dress accordingly. If you're unfamiliar with the area and the Blue Ridge Parkway, please make sure you fill up your gas tank before driving up the mountain. The cell reception from the lodge is very little to no good and the nearest gas station is about 6 miles away from the lodge at the base of the mountain. It will be difficult to contact me after I arrive around 8:00AM I will stay close to the lodge throughout the paint out so that I will be easy to find if you have any questions or need anything.
