Description - Pocahontas is a beautiful State Park just outside of Richmond, Virginia. There are two lakes that are very close to each other inside of the park that offer painting spots along their shore lines (Beaver Lake and Swift Creek Lake). There is also a dam/waterfall about 5 minutes from the parking lot that will be flowing depending on how much rain we get. There is a walking bridge that crosses Swift Creek Lake right near a kayak slip. Each lake usually has quite a few geese, ducks and fisherman that don't mind being painted. If you're really feeling adventurous, there's a roughly 2 mile trail around Beaver Lake that has vistas of the lake, interesting spots along the trail itself, and a creek crossing at about the 1/2 way point of the loop. There is also a floater Bridge on Beaver Lake that has views of waterlilies, although I am not sure if they will be flowering in September. This Paint-Out is not limited to just oil painters. My intentions are to created a low pressure day of fun and painting outdoors, because that's what I love to do. Please feel free to invite friends and to plan an entire day at the park, (You don't have to pack up at 11:30 if you don't want to haha) I would just appreciate a head count because I need to give CFA an idea of how many boxed lunches we will need this year. If you're interested in coming, please RSVP by shooting me a text or email with you name, number and whether you're going to bring friends. Thanks and Happy Painting! -Anthony
Instructions - We will be getting together on September 24th at 7:00 AM at the Heritage Nature Center parking lot (Inside of the park). Parking is $10 per vehicle on the weekends, so if you plan on going with friends, it might be a good idea to carpool! Our Local Chick-Fil-A has generously agreed to cater our Paint-Out for the second year in a row! We will have CFA Boxed Lunches at 11AM and a chance to talk and show each other our work from that morning. In addition to all of your painting gear, I would suggest bringing sunscreen, snacks, extra drinking water, maybe a shady hat and a great attitude:)
