Description - My experience as an artist has shown me that learning to paint is about gaining the knowledge and developing the skills you need to create the paintings you envision. Composition, values, and color are some of the principles that are basic to painting, but how do you use these concepts and how do you think about them? Through lectures, sharing, exercises and demonstrations our goal will be to shift the paradigm from seeing to envisioning, duplicating to creating and imitation to authenticity. In order to do this we will be reviewing and expanding on the fundamentals of painting. My job is to provide you with the knowledge, the tools and, more importantly, the mind set to improve and expand your painting abilities. We will have lectures and demonstrations related to designing compositions, the use of painting tools, the keys to correct values, the language of color and more. The exercises we do will focus on specific skills and painting habits that lead to better paintings. Painting time will be used to apply and practice the concepts we cover with input to each individual from me. Last but not least, we will critique paintings we have previously done to see how we can apply these ideas and improve.
