Description - This workshop will go from 9:00 am to 4:00pm PDT - Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This workshop is designed to help students loosen up and get more of a solid, painterly and expressive portrait that is as much of a work of Art as it is a Portrait. Therefore we ask that students have some portrait experience, as we will be focusing much more on "saying more with less". Getting the structure, the essence and color relationships. The first day I will be doing a couple of 'block in" demonstrations of my process . We will also look at some examples of some other "great" portraits and analyze them and consider the variety of backgrounds used. The rest of the day you will be doing some 45 minute portraits to get everyone to loosen up and make some more important "block in" decisions. We will have some short critiques on those at the end of the day. The second day I will do another demonstration carrying the block in to a more "finished" painting and you will then take two more block in's to a more finished painting, probably spending about 90 minutes on each portrait. We will then have critiques after the first portrait and another after the second portrait. I will probably work along with you as you can then see what and why I have done. The third day will be more like the second day, but we will each try and be aware of the certain area's that we need to work on after the second day's critiques. Workshop will be limited to 10 students.
