Description - This workshop is limited to 10 students. Focusing on the important process of doing a painting, using small (6x8,8x10,9x12) value and color studies and applying the principles and elements of design to improve the quality of our work. Those studies are where we work out the design and color and where most of our creative ideas and judgements will be applied. I really believe most paintings are ruined at the start, not at the end, and this process enables us to get better results as we have ironed out ahead of time a lot of the problems that arise in most paintings, because we've tried to apply those principles and elements of design and can see what is working and what is not. We will be doing smaller value studies to get some of our ideas down in about 4 or 5 values. These smaller studies are around 6"x8" or 8"x10" to see how shapes, values and edges are working out. Color studies are about the same size and for the same purpose to get things down to see how everything is relating so that we can fine tune the color relationships. As this is an online course and, we will be working mostly from photos.Bring some of your own favorite photos to work from, but I would like to see them to see they have the "quality" you need to work from. We will talk about taking "great" photos and just what does that all mean. We will emphasis using the photo or photos as a reference and get away from "copying" them. I will have a large selection of my photos that you can work from.. I have great photos of landscapes, figures, from all over the country and world for you to use, but I do encourage you to use your own and learn how to take "good' photos to work from. We can learn a lot even from photos..same principles apply and we will talk about what we need to change working from photos. I recommend that you consider concentrating on the "Process"...and by that I mean, not just having a "finished" work ...as trying to always get a finished product, gets in the way of learning. The "Process" is what most very good "Professional Artists" are concerned with...that important step is developing value and/or color studies....that is where most of the creativity is and what we really enjoy the most. Bring a good sense of humor and we will work hard and have a good time doing it! The cost of this three day online workshop is $375 and the workshop is a Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm. PDT Nov. 10-12, 2023. Checks are preferable, but you could also use paypal. Our address is 13621 182nd Ave SE, Renton, WA 98059. Email: nedmueller06@comcast.net Website: www.nedmueller.com
