2022 National Exhibition Accepted Artist Instructions

Dear OPA Exhibiting Artist,

Congratulations on your acceptance into this year’s National Exhibition of Traditional Oils to be held at the Steamboat Art Museum, June 3 – August 27, 2022.  Please read the following instructions closely as it includes important information regarding the exhibition.  OPA and Steamboat Art Museum look forward to receiving your painting.

Important Information!

Due to the longer length of the exhibition, OPA and the Steamboat Art Museum request that you DO NOT send a return shipping label at this time.  The week prior to the closing of the exhibition, SAM will determine what paintings will require a return shipping label and email everyone with further instructions.

Please be sure to note the dimensions of the box you used to ship your artwork to Steamboat Art Museum, as well as the weight of the box.

All artists who have been juried into the exhibition are required to fill out the uncrating form below.

A couple of quick reminders!

•Your painting should arrive in Steamboat Springs the week of April 11 through April 15

•Do NOT include a return shipping label in your box!  OPA will send further instructions re: return shipping labels towards the end of the exhibition.

•In the next week or two, you should receive shipping instructions in the mail. Please read over the information carefully and be sure to proofread the enclosed notification card.

•SAM needs your bio! Please email them a one-page biography to share with their collectors.  Email: exhibit@steamboatartmuseum.org

Finally, we would love to see you in Steamboat Springs!  Check out OPA’s convention program which includes our popular Wet Paint Competition.

OPA and SAM highly recommend you obtain insurance for your artwork while in transit. The shipping industry is experiencing staff shortages resulting in longer delivery times and less care taken with shipments. One option to consider, is ShipandInsure which offers OPA members insurance and discounts on Federal Express.

Confirm Your Crating Method

Please fill out the online form below. If you are shipping under Option #1, please be prepared to pay the uncrating fee online.

  • Accepted Artist Shipping Form and Instructions

  • If you are shipping your painting to Steamboat in a non-commercial shipping container, there is a $35 uncrating fee which goes directly to Steamboat Art Museum. The uncrating fee must be paid prior to the opening of the exhibition. PLEASE, NO PEANUTS OR CRATES!

  • If you are sending your artwork using a commercial art box, such as AirFloat, MasterPak, Uline, etc., you do not need to pay the uncrating fee. However, you are required to complete the form below. NOTE: Federal Express Premium Art Boxes are acceptable, but the Federal Express large frame box is not. Also, Home Depot boxes and homemade art boxes do not qualify under the uncrating fee exemption.

  • If you live in the Steamboat Springs area and plan on hand delivering your artwork to the museum you do not need to pay the uncrating fee provided that your painting does not require unpacking. OPA recommends you confirm with the museum a convenient time to drop off your painting before attempting to deliver your artwork.
