Karen Philpott
Karen Philpott has been an artist her entire life. Her career as a graphic designer working in Nashville, TN within the music industry spanned 30 years. Her graphic work earned her multiple national awards from the music industry including Dove Awards, Stellar Awards and Diamond Awards. Her clients included Andy Griffith, Aaron Neville, and CeCe Winans to name a few. In 2007 one of her prestigious clients, the TJ Martell Foundation asked her to create a series of paintings. That project ignited a passion for painting and soon after she retired to devote herself to the pursuit of painting.
Karen graduated in 1978 from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis on Graphic Design and Illustration. After retiring from her long career, she has sought to further her education as a painter by studying with several artists who not only rank among Tennessee’s best but in the nation as well. Roger Dale Brown, OPAM, Kevin Menck, Jason Saunders, Howard Friedland, OPA, Lori Putnam, OPA, Dawn Whitelaw AIS Master, and Scott Christensen.
In 2018, Karen joined a highly respected group of painters who share a teaching studio space in the historic town of Franklin, TN. It is here at OnTrack Studios, that Karen paints and teaches workshops. She is also an active member of the Chestnut Group, a highly valued group of artist who promotes the advantages of painting outdoors along with conservation. Her deep love of plein air and the preservation of the environment is evident in her paintings.
