Qiang Huang OPA

Qiang Huang OPA (pronounced Chong Wong.) was born and raised in Beijing, China and he now lives at Austin, Texas. His interest in art was developed when he was very young, and influenced strongly by his uncle, Hong-En Huang, a professional painter and art educator.

For various reasons, he did not get opportunity to study art in any professional art institutions. He studied science and technology instead. He moved to America in 1985, obtained his Ph.D. in physics in 1993, and sought a career in optical engineering. However, he has been active in local art communities. To further develop his artistic skills, he has attended classes and workshops. In the summer of 2012, Qiang attended the graduate school of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Qiang’s paintings show remarkable accuracy and expressive brush strokes

Qiang is a Signature member of the Oil Painters of America. His paintings have been selected many time for the OPA National Juried Exhibitions. He has received:

“Still Life Honorable Mention Award” on the 20th and 24th OPA National,

“Still Life Award of Excellence” on the 22th OPA National,

“Impressionist Honorable Mention Award” on the 23 OPA National.

His painting has been shown at the Virtuosos of OPA Exhibition in 2015.

Qiang has worked with a couple of software engineers and developed a few computer apps that help artists to paint better. The most popular one is the “Painter’s Guide” app, which can be accessed from Qiang’s website.
